Jerusalem
Jerusalem is a city held sacred by the three Abrahamic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam and is a must-see for any visit to Israel. The first stop of any visit to Jerusalem should be the Old City. Comprising four quarters - Jewish, Christian, Muslim and Armenian. In the Christian Quarter, see the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, said to be built on the site of Golgotha, where Jesus was crucified and which is claimed to be the site of his resurrection. Walk along the Via Dolorosa, the path where Jesus walked, bearing his cross, on the way to his crucifixion. In the Jewish Quarter, see the Western ('Wailing') Wall, part of the retaining wall surrounding the Temple Mount built by King Herod, and is a place where Jews from around the world come to pray and insert pieces of paper bearing their requests from God between the rocks of the wall. See also the remnants of the two ancient synagogues, the Hurva and Tiferet Israel. Jerusalem is also home to some world-class museums, such as the Israel Museum, which houses the Dead Sea scrolls, and the Tower of David Museum. Yad Vashem, Israel's Holocaust Museum and Memorial is also located in Jerusalem. Jerusalem also showcases some stunning architecture, ranging from beautiful churches, monasteries and shrines from the Roman, Byzantine and Crusader times, such as the churches in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher compounds, the Church of St. John the Baptist and the Nea Church, to Islamic Architecture such as the Dome of the Rock thorough more modern buildings such as the Knesset and the recently built Chords Bridge.
