I was born and raised in the small town of Jerusalem, a city divided in two by a cement wall. As a boy growing up there, I used to dream about the Old City, and try to imagine what it might be like on the other side of the wall. I was eleven years old in 1967, when after the Six Day War, Jerusalem was unified and doubled in size. Finally, I could enter the Old City, get to know its streets and alleyways, meet its residents, and learn its history in an intimate way.
When I visit and guide in the Old City, my enthusiasm for this fascinating city is reignited. When I walk through these streets, history comes alive. I see our forefather Abraham who nearly sacrificed his son Isaac on Mount Moriah, King David who conquered the City of David, Solomon who built the Holy Temple, and Herod who rebuilt the Second Temple. I see Jesus of Nazareth, delivering his mission, Muhammad flying on his horse to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the Kings and Prophets so close to the Divine Spirit, here, in one of the holiest places on earth.
When we visit Jerusalem and the Land of Israel, together we will experience the customs and culture of our ancestors as well as the modern day diversity of people and religions, variety of smells, tastes, music, and art still being created today, that make this the most unique and exciting place on earth.
