Having spent the first day of this three-day tour on a journey through the ancient sights, the second day will focus on the modern side of Jerusalem.
The first stop during the day will see you return to The Kotel to watch a Bar-Mitzvah ceremony. See the ancient traditions come to life in front of your eyes in this magnificent setting.
The day continues with a tour of Mea Shearim. Here you will learn about the unique lifestyle of this ultra-orthodox community.
Following this, the tour will drive to Mount Hertzl, the military cemetery and Yad Vashem, the memorial museum to the Holocaust.
Proceeding this the tour will head to Ammunition Hill. This was a former Jordanian army stronghold and remains in situ as a maze of trenches which are open and available for you to climb around and explore. They were captured by the Israeli army in the Six Day War and converted into a national memorial and museum.
After this, you will be taken to the Knesset, Israel’s parliament and see the Menorah which stands opposite the Knesset on the edge of the rose garden. The Menorah, which was hand sculpted and gifted to Israel by British Sculptor Benno Elkan in 1956 is covered in some 30 symbols from historic events, idioms and characters from Jewish history.
Your final stop of the day will be the world-famous
Israel Museum, home of some of the most precious and ancient artifacts including,
the Shrine of the book which is where the
Dead Sea scrolls are housed. Conversely, there is also the new Holyland model, a miniature replica of Jerusalem as it was during the second temple period.
